Frequently asked questions
The questions that come up most.
Nothing plays when a player hits somebody
In order:
- Is the victim allowed?
effects.all-mobsisfalseby default, so onlyPLAYER,MANNEQUINandZOMBIEcount. - Was the hit cancelled? A blow another plugin refused plays nothing on purpose.
- Is there an effect at all? In
mode: weaponthe menu choice is never read, and inmode: playera bound weapon is never read. - Do they own it? A menu choice they no longer have the node for is taken off instead of played.
- Is anyone set to see it? A player on
NONEsees nothing, including their own.
The menu says it is off
behaviour.mode is weapon. On that server the menu would change nothing, so it refuses to open
rather than pretending.
An arrow played the wrong effect
It played the one that was resolved when it was fired — that is the point: a player who switched weapons mid-flight does not change what is already in the air. An arrow this plugin never saw launched falls back to whatever the shooter is holding when it lands.
Effects stack on top of each other in a fight
An effect longer than six tenths of a second is still playing when the next blow lands. That is why
the shipped ones are short. If you wrote your own, cut life: and the number of lines.
Can I use a kill effect's sequence here?
The syntax is the same, so it will load — and it will play on every single blow. Read the budget in Effects before you paste one in.
A player says their effect disappeared
Their permission for it went away — a rank expiring, usually. A choice that can no longer be justified is taken off rather than played. The node comes back, they pick it again.
Does losing a permission break a weapon?
No. A bound weapon plays its effect for whoever holds it: the node is asked for when the token is bound, not on every hit. That is what makes a bound weapon worth trading.
Can players see each other's effects?
That is each observer's own choice: ALL, NONE, SELF_ONLY or OTHERS_ONLY, set with
/hiteffect visibility or from the menu.
Does the weapon lore get written to the item?
Never. It is added to the copy that leaves the server. Any plugin reading that weapon finds the lore it always had, and renaming an effect updates every weapon on the server at once.
Can I write my own effects?
Yes — that is what effects.yml is for. Twenty-five shapes, thirteen other tokens and the display
parameters are in Sequences. A line that cannot be read is reported
on the console and skipped; the rest of the effect still plays.
Can a region turn effects off?
Yes. ExyliaLib registers a WorldGuard flag, hit-effects: denying it in a region stops effects
playing on a blow landed inside it. On a server without WorldGuard the flag simply allows.
Does it work on Folia?
Yes, it declares Folia support.
Where do I get support?
On the Exylia Discord.
