Configuration

Every block of config.yml, with what it ships with.

config.yml has seven blocks. The trims themselves live in trims.yml — see Trims.

behaviour

behaviour:
  mode: both
  consume-remover: true
  consume-trim-item: true
  require-permission: true
  hide-without-permission: true
KeyDefaultWhat it does
modebothWhere a trim comes from: item, menu or both.
consume-trim-itemtrueWhether the trim item is used up when applied.
consume-removertrueWhether the remover is used up when it removes a trim.
require-permissiontrueWhether wearing a trim needs its node. Commands and the API never look at this.
hide-without-permissiontrueWhether armor whose trim the wearer may no longer use is shown as it really is.

Covered in Modes and items.

trim-item and remover-item

How the system's two items are drawn:

trim-item:
  material: NETHERITE_UPGRADE_SMITHING_TEMPLATE
  name: "{primary}&lARMOR TRIM &8» %trim%"
  lore:
    - "{secondary}Information:"
    - " {letters_black}▎ {letters}Drop this onto a piece of armor"
    - " {letters_black}▎ {letters}to {highlight}engrave it{letters}. The armor keeps"
    - " {letters_black}▎ {letters}everything it had."
    - ""
    - "{secondary}Trim:"
    - " {letters_black}▎ {info}%pattern% {letters_black}» {info}%material%"
    - ""
    - "{warning}➥ Drop onto armor to apply"
    - ""
  glow: true

remover-item:
  material: SCRAPE_POTTERY_SHERD
  name: "{primary}&lTRIM REMOVER"
  glow: true
KeyWhat it does
materialThe icon. A preset with its own icon wins over this.
name%trim% is the trim's name.
lore%trim%, %pattern% and %material%.
glowThe enchantment shimmer.

If the icon is a piece of armor it is painted with the trim it carries, so the item previews itself.

armor-lore

Lines added under trimmed armor:

armor-lore:
  enabled: true
  lines:
    - "{secondary}Trim:"
    - " {letters_black}▎ {highlight}%trim%"

Only the client sees them: they travel on the visual and are never written to the real item, so a plugin reading the armor's lore finds exactly what it had. They come after the piece's own lore, separated by a blank line.

The strings a template cannot spell out slot by slot — see The menu.

Unknown keys are removed

A key the file does not declare is dropped on load and reported once. It keeps the files clean between versions, and it is why your own keys do not survive in them.
