Getting started

Introduction

What ExyliaArmorTrims is: named presets and free combinations, chosen on one screen or carried as an item, drawn with packets.

ExyliaArmorTrims puts a trim on a piece of armor. A trim is a pattern and a material, and it is drawn on the way to the client: the chestplate is still exactly the same chestplate on the server, and everybody sees it engraved.

The armor is never converted or rebuilt. The visual is a copy of the real item with one component added — the trim — so material, name, enchantments, attributes, durability, custom model data and any other plugin's data stay exactly where they were. The item the server holds never carries a trim.

Two ways to wear a trim

WayWhose it isWhich server it suits
ItemThe armor's: one value is written onto the item and travels with it through chests, trades and deaths.Survival, economy
MenuThe player's: stored per player and per piece, and it lands on whatever they equip.Practice, PvP

behaviour.mode decides which is used — item, menu or both — and is covered in Modes and items.

Presets and combinations

PresetsCombinations with a name of their own, defined in trims.yml. Eighteen ship — SHOGUN, POLTERGEIST, VERDANT… — each with an id, a name and one permission.
CustomAny pattern with any material, built by the player on the CUSTOM tab. It has no id: it is permitted by its two halves plus the tab's own node.

trims.yml ships 18 patterns and 11 materials — 198 combinations — but the list is yours: a pattern the file does not list is not offered, and every one you keep can be renamed and drawn with any icon.

What the client sees

ViewerSees
Anyone tracking the wearerThe armor with its trim
The wearer, in their inventory and on their dollThe same
The wearer in creativeThe real armor — a creative client sends its slots back to the server, so it has to be shown the truth
Anyone looking at a trimmed piece in a chest, the hotbar or on the cursorThe real item, with the trim and the armor-lore lines added
Anyone looking at an elytraThe elytra. It sits in the chest slot but is not armor, and dressing it as a chestplate would cost the wearer their flight
Everyone, once the wearer no longer holds the permissionBare armor, while hide-without-permission is on. The value stays stored and the look returns with the node

What it costs the player

Nothing in game: no smithing table, no template, no material spent. What limits it is permissions — see Permissions — and, if you sell trim items, whatever getting one costs.
