Duels

Challenging a player directly, best-of-N rounds, and what a duel does that a queue match does not.

A duel skips matchmaking entirely: one player picks the opponent, the kit, the arena and how many rounds, and the other accepts.

Sending one

/duel <player> — or /d, or the Duel button on a player's row in a menu — opens a short chain of screens:

Category

The kit categories, as everywhere else.

Kit

Only kits with duel enabled are listed.

Rounds

1, 3, 5, or Custom — which asks in chat for anything from 1 to 20.

Arena

Optionally, a preferred arena from the kit's compatible list. It is tried first; if it is busy the rest of the list is used instead, so a preferred arena never causes a failure.

Both players get a message naming the kit and the round count.

Answering one

CommandWhat it does
/duel accept [player]Accept. With no name, the first pending request.
/duel deny [player], /duel decline [player]Decline.
/duel cancelWithdraw the request you sent.

Requests expire after duel.request-expiry-seconds — 30 by default — and the sender is told when theirs runs out.

One outgoing request at a time

A player may hold only one pending request as sender, but may receive several. /duel accept with no argument takes whichever is found first, so name the player when more than one is waiting.

Requirements

A duel refuses when:

  • Either player is not free — queued, in a match, editing a kit, spectating, or held by another plugin.
  • The target has duel requests turned off in /settings.
  • The sender already has a request pending.

Both players are claimed at the same moment when the duel is accepted. If the second claim fails, the first is released and nothing starts — nobody ends up in a duel their opponent has walked out of.

Rounds

A duel with more than one round is a best-of. The first player to win rounds rounds wins the match.

Between rounds:

  • Both get a round won / round lost title carrying the running score.
  • After duel.round-end-delay-ticks — 80 by default, four seconds — the arena is regenerated in place, without being released.
  • Everybody is revived, points are reset to zero, both are teleported back to their spawns, re-kitted, and the normal countdown runs again.

A round that ends in a draw restarts without giving anybody a win.

Rounds and points stack

A kit with points-to-win in a duel means each round is itself a race to that point total. The sidebar switches to the duel-with-points layout automatically, showing rounds and points side by side.

ELO

A duel is ranked if the kit is ranked. There is no separate switch — a ranked kit gains and loses LP through /duel exactly as it does through /queue.

The anti-boost checks do not gate duels

Same-IP protection and the recent-opponent cooldown are asked before a queue match is paired, not before a duel is accepted. Two accounts can duel each other repeatedly for LP. The duel does record the pair as recently matched, which blocks them from meeting through the queue for the next elo-security.opponent-cooldown-seconds, but nothing stops the duels themselves. If that matters on your server, turn ranked off on the kits you offer for duelling, or duel off on the ranked ones.
