Configuring

Fortune

What a Fortune pickaxe does in a mine: vanilla drops, custom loot, money and lucky chances, the server-wide rules and each mine's own limits.

Fortune works in a mine on two layers. Vanilla drops are worked out by the server's own loot tables with the tool in hand, so Fortune and Silk Touch behave there exactly as anywhere else. Custom loot — the loot tables, the money they pay, the lucky rewards — is never seen by those tables, so the plugin adds Fortune to it itself, as config.yml says.

The server-wide rules

plugins/ExyliaMines/config.yml
fortune:
  mode: VANILLA
  target: ITEMS
  per-level: 0.25
  lucky-per-level: 0.0
  max-level: -1
  silk-touch: true
KeyDefaultWhat it does
modeVANILLAHow Fortune changes custom loot. See the table below.
targetITEMSWhat the mode multiplies: ITEMS, MONEY or BOTH. Commands are never multiplied.
per-level0.25What each level adds with LINEAR and CHANCE: 0.25 makes Fortune III ×1.75.
lucky-per-level0.0Each level raises the chance of every lucky reward by this share: 0.1 makes Fortune III ×1.3. 0 leaves them alone.
max-level-1The highest Fortune level counted in mines, for vanilla drops and custom loot alike. -1 counts any level, 0 turns Fortune off.
silk-touchtrueWhether Silk Touch works in mines.

The modes

ModeWhat custom loot does at Fortune level L
OFFNothing. Custom loot ignores Fortune.
VANILLAThe ore formula: the amount is multiplied by 1, or by 2 up to L + 1, the bonus coming up more often the higher the level — ×2.2 on average at Fortune III, as a diamond ore drops.
LINEARThe amount is multiplied by 1 + L × per-level, the fraction rolled: ×1.75 at Fortune III with the default, so 1 item becomes 2 three times in four.
CHANCEAmounts stay as they are; the chance of every line rises instead, to chance × (1 + L × per-level), at most 100.

With target: MONEY or BOTH, VANILLA and LINEAR multiply the money a line pays the same way. CHANCE ignores target: it raises the chance of every line of the table, money and command lines included.

lucky-per-level works whatever the mode, OFF included, and counts the level after the mine's limits.

Each mine's own limits

Rewards → Fortune on a mine's setup screen overrides three of those settings for that mine alone. Each one steps through its values on a click, and back to following config.yml:

ClickSettingSteps through
Left-clickModeFollow config.yml → OFF → VANILLA → LINEAR → CHANCE → follow config.yml
Right-clickHighest levelFollow config.yml → 0 (no Fortune) → 1 → … → 5 → any → follow config.yml
Shift-left-clickSilk TouchFollow config.yml → allowed → denied → follow config.yml

A setting the mine leaves to the file reads "(default)" next to its value in the menu, so you always see what actually applies. target, per-level and lucky-per-level are server-wide only.

How the limits apply

The highest level and the Silk Touch switch are applied to a copy of the tool the drops are worked out with: a Fortune V pickaxe in a mine capped at 2 drops as a Fortune II one, and a Silk Touch pickaxe in a mine that denies it drops as if it had no Silk Touch. The real pickaxe is untouched and still takes the durability.

With ExyliaSurvivalCore installed, its enchantment limits for the place are applied first, then the mine's.

Silk Touch and experience

A tool that still has Silk Touch after the limits gets no experience from ores, as in vanilla: the ore itself drops instead.
