AFK zones

Regions that pay players for staying in them: the ladder of tiers, the boss bar, who earns, full inventories, the AFK top and the zone editor.

An AFK zone is a box in a world that pays the players standing in it, on a timer. The longer a player stays without leaving, the higher the tier they reach, and a higher tier can pay more, more often. Zones are created and edited in game with /afkzonesadmin (exyliarewards.afkzones.admin), and players list them with /afkzone.

How a stay pays

  1. Walking in starts a stay: a title, the afk-zones.enter-sound, and a boss bar counting down to the next payout.
  2. When the countdown ends, the player is paid the rewards of the tier they are on, with a title and the afk-zones.reward-sound, and the next countdown starts.
  3. Each countdown starts on the tier the player's uninterrupted time in the zone has reached. Reaching a higher tier says so in chat.
  4. Leaving ends the stay and sends a summary of everything received. Coming back starts again at the bottom.

A zone's own interval and rewards are its base tier, at minute zero. Extra tiers are reached after a number of minutes in the zone and each has its own interval and rewards, so a zone with no extra tiers simply pays its base rewards every interval.

Every countdown and payout reads the zone as it is now: an edit reaches players already inside on their next payout, and a zone switched off or deleted pays nothing more.

Who earns

  • Only a player who is playing: alive, in survival or adventure, and not vanished. Staff in creative or spectator get no stay; a player who switches mode inside keeps the countdown but is not paid.
  • One account per address per zone. A player whose address matches somebody already in the zone is told so and earns nothing there. When the database cannot answer, entry is refused.
  • A player who logs in inside a zone starts a stay there. Dying takes the bar down; respawning inside the zone starts the countdown again, respawning outside ends the stay.

Full inventories

Money, commands and other non-item rewards are always paid. When the player's inventory is full, the first payout's items still go through and are kept for their next join, with a warning; the payouts after that skip the items until there is room again, so a player full overnight does not pile up a batch every interval.

The AFK top

Every payout adds its interval to the player's paid AFK time, network-wide. The ten players with the most are cached and refreshed every minute, for the afk_top placeholders; see Placeholders.

The zone editor

/afkzonesadmin lists this server's zones. Create zone asks an ID (lowercase, no spaces) and opens it. Left-click a zone to edit it, right-click to delete it (asked to confirm).

CardHolds
StatusEnabled or disabled.
GeneralZone area: select the box with ExyliaLib's shared block selector (a wand and two corners); Base interval: the time between base payouts, such as 1m.
TiersThe extra tiers. Add tier asks a name and the minutes a player must stay to reach it; it starts on the zone's interval and pays nothing until you give it rewards. Each tier has its name, Reached after, Interval and Rewards, and can be deleted.
RewardsThe base rewards, in ExyliaLib's reward editor.
DisplayThe display name and the icon.
Player viewThe tier list a player sees.

A new zone is enabled, pays every 60 seconds, has the zone's ID as its name and RED_BED as its icon, and pays nothing until its area and rewards are set. Changing the area or the status puts everybody online in or out of the zone at once.

Zones belong to one server

Each zone is stored with the server it was created on, and each server only loads its own. Several servers on one database keep their zones apart; the paid AFK time and the top are shared.

What players see

/afkzone lists the enabled zones of this server, with the zone the player is in, their tier and their paid AFK time. Clicking a zone, or /afkzone preview <zone>, shows its tiers: when each is reached, how often it pays and what. The AFK zones card of /rewards opens the same list.

The bar, both titles, the summary and every line are in messages.yml under afk-zones.
