Spawners
The spawner item, placing, stacking, opening, mining, explosions, spawn eggs, converting vanilla spawners and the placement limits.
The spawner item
A spawner item holds a type, a tier and a number of spawners, plus a unique id. One item can hold many
spawners: /spawnersadmin give with an amount of 500 hands over one item of 500. Items never merge with
each other in the inventory (each stacks to 1), because each one is a single record.
Its look comes from lang/<language>/spawner-item.yml, an ExyliaLib item with the placeholders %type%,
%type_upper%, %tier%, %stack% and %mode%. Restyle it freely: spawners are recognised by the values
stored on the item, never by their name. The material is always SPAWNER.
Every id is recorded when the item is made and spent when it is placed or stacked. An item whose id was
already used, was never handed out, or whose type, tier or count no longer match the record is refused with
"This spawner is not valid", and the attempt is written to the audit log as spawner-item-rejected. On a
network, two servers racing to place the same copy end with one spawner: the second one is taken back off.
Placing
Placing the item makes a spawner block holding that many spawners, owned by the player. The checks, in order:
- The type still exists and is enabled in
types.yml. - The player has
exyliaspawners.use, andexyliaspawners.place.<type>whenplacement.require-type-permissionis on. - Every claim and region plugin allows building there. See Trust and protection.
- The chunk has fewer spawner blocks than
placement.chunk-limit. - The player owns fewer spawner blocks than their limit:
placement.player-limit, or the highestexyliaspawners.limit.<n>they hold. In network mode this counts the player's spawner blocks on every server.
An item holding more spawners than the stack limit places a full stack and hands the rest back as a new item.
Stacking
Right-clicking a placed spawner with an item of the same type and tier adds one spawner; sneaking adds the
whole item, up to the stack limit. The stack limit is the type's stack-limit, else the tier's, raised by the
highest exyliaspawners.stack.<n> the player holds. Stacking needs the same rights as opening the spawner
(owner or trusted, and the claim allowing building).
Every spawner in a stack shares the stack's tier, its upgrade levels and its storage, and the storage cap grows with the stack.
Opening
Right-clicking a spawner with anything else opens its hub: storage, upgrades, boosters, trusted players, corruption and Sell all. Sneaking with a block in hand places the block instead. Only the owner, their trusted players and staff can open a spawner. See Storage and selling.
Mining
| Rule | Default |
|---|---|
The tool must match mining.tools | *_PICKAXE |
| The tool must carry Silk Touch | mining.require-silk-touch: true |
| Chance the spawner drops | mining.chance: 100, raised by exyliaspawners.chance.<n> |
| The last spawner of a stack cannot be mined while its storage holds items or experience | mining.require-empty-storage: true |
| Mined spawners go into the miner's inventory | mining.to-inventory: true |
A mine takes one spawner off the stack; sneaking takes all of them. The block only disappears with the last
one. With mining.to-inventory on, the item goes straight into the miner's inventory, and whatever does not
fit drops at their feet, so nobody standing near the block can pick it up. A failed chance roll destroys the
spawners mined with the message "The spawner shattered".
Players in creative mode skip the tool and Silk Touch checks. Mining needs exyliaspawners.use,
exyliaspawners.mine.<type> when mining.require-type-permission is on, ownership or trust, and the claim
allowing breaking.
The hub's Pick up spawner button (asks to confirm) takes the whole stack under the same rules, from up to six blocks away, with the item in the main hand counting as the tool. It always hands the item over to the inventory.
A spawner item carries a type, a tier and a count, not upgrade levels. Mining spawners off a stack leaves the levels on the block; mining or picking up the last one loses them. Boosters running in it come back as items.
Explosions
With explosions.enabled on, an explosion that reaches a spawner takes one spawner off its stack, and
explosions.drop-chance (50 by default) decides whether it drops as an item where the block was. A spawner whose
storage holds anything is never blown up. Claim plugins that protect a block from a blast are respected. With
explosions.enabled off, explosions leave spawners alone.
Spawn eggs
With egg-change.enabled on, right-clicking a spawner with a spawn egg changes its type to the type of that
mob, for one egg per spawner in the stack (none in creative). It needs exyliaspawners.egg, the right to stack
the spawner, and exyliaspawners.place.<type> when placement.require-type-permission is on. The vanilla egg
change never happens on a plugin spawner, so stacks and storage cannot be bypassed.
Vanilla spawners
With conversion.enabled on (the default), a vanilla spawner (a dungeon's, or one another plugin set) becomes an
ExyliaSpawners spawner of tier conversion.tier the first time a player clicks or mines it, when a type for its
mob exists. Trial spawners are never touched. A converted spawner has no owner: the first player to stack onto it
or change it with an egg becomes its owner. Until then anyone the claims allow can use it. See
Trust and protection.
What protects the block
- Vanilla spawning never runs on a plugin spawner: production goes through the plugin only.
- The block is registered with ExyliaLib's block protection, so pistons cannot push or pull it.
- A spawner whose block was replaced behind the plugin's back (WorldEdit, another plugin) is removed from the records the next time production looks at it, and the removal is written to the audit log.
